Day 34

Her headband kind of makes her look like a mini Rambo.

Day 33

Gary's aunts came over to visit and all that action tired little Riley right out.

Day 32

Not the traditional swaddle, but in the NICU they always swaddled Cam like this because it's comforting for babies to have their hands by their faces, so I figure the same applies for newborns who aren't preemies.

Day 29: One Month

A whole month over and done with. My tiny girl has already grown up so much in just that month. She was so little when we brought her home and now she rivals her bear in size.

Day 28

Okay this day is a lie. I slacked on pictures so much more than I thought I would and I don't have any pictures at all from March 22nd, let alone pictures of Riley. How I could resist taking one last picture before she turned a whole month old I'll never know.

So this is a picture from the morning of the 23rd (and the next post is a pictures of the afternoon of the 23rd). Riley had a hip ultrasound scheduled the day she turned 1 month. She was not a fan, but everything checked out. Gary comforted her while we waited to be given the all clear to leave.

Day 27

One of my favorite outfits I bought for Riley. She grew out of it so quickly. She's wearing the bow they gave her to take pictures of her in the hospital.

Day 26

Daddy and his baby girl. I love those swaddle blankets, too!

Day 25

Attempted a nice portrait of the two of my children together today. It did not work at all. Camden refused to even be bribed with chocolate. He wanted to play and wanted nowhere near Riley. I managed to make a workable collage of the less-fail pics. This one most definitely is not hanging on my wall.

Day 24

I love unseasonably nice days in winter. On account of the nice weather we took a trip to Handels and all got ice cream. Riley didn't get hers until later, but I don't think she minded since she slept through the outing.

Day 23: St. Patrick's Day

Riley wore her dress in honor of the day and all that Cam had was a neon green shirt. So we went with it.

Day 22

Wow - really. Two days in a row and no new pictures of my baby? Well, let's pretend that's her in the carseat. :) For all I know it could have been!

Day 21

Ok - hard to believe isn't it? Only 21 days and I've already gotten sick of taking pictures of my beautiful girl. The reality is that most days were spent recovering, breathing, feeding two children (what seemed like constantly and often simultaneously), and by the time it was all through most days I was still just picking up my camera out of an urge to 'not miss a day.' So I tried not to force it. I decided that I would take a picture of Riley when I wanted to and pictures of whatever else I wanted to when I wanted to. I guess this day I was too busy holding the baby that never wanted set down to take pictures of her.
I did get a picture of her stand-in. Cam had watched us construct the blanket-tent for Riley in her bouncy so often by this point that his instinct was to recreate it.

Day 20

Riley's umbilical cord finally fell off and tonight she had her first bath. She absolutely loved it! Even though she was unsure at first, once she relaxed she was thrilled with it. I was just excited to finally see her hair clean again after twenty days. :)

Day 19

Cam wore this sleeper when he was 1 month old and it swam on him then, too.

Saturday, March 12, 2011

Day 18

A bit early - Riley tries on her St. Patrick's Day dress. I can't believe how long ago that seems that it was hard to buy for her because NB sizes ran too big.

Day 17

The sleeping anywhere-and-everywhere is one of the best phases of the newborn. It's nice because we can all be in the same room together and not feel isolated in a quiet dark room while soothing a baby.

Thursday, March 10, 2011

Day 16

Practicing for Easter with her bunny hat. And yes, I'm pretty sure she was asleep while I put the hat on her. How I miss those days where she didn't flinch at all while sleeping. :)

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Day 15

A little baby profile shot. She is growing and changing so much!

Monday, March 7, 2011

Day 13

All of her naps started like this. Swaddled in the bouncer with a blanket on top. Eventually a giant down throw got added below her and tented on top of her to block the light. I should have known then sleep was going to be an issue for us.

Day 12

The first month (maybe even two months) looked a lot like this. Snoogle propped up in my bed because my incision made it impossible to reach down to get it off the floor every two hours and I needed it to help prop myself up to nurse Riley. (Even with the snoogle already in place it took a good 5 minutes of scooting to make my way into a sitting position.) And Cam woke a lot these first two months. He was getting his molars and I'm sure a new crying baby didn't help. So a lot of nights we were one big happy family in our bed.

Day 11

I had forgotten just how "fun" it was to dress a newborn. After two years of dressing Cam, we have a nice system down. He even helps put his arms in. It was interesting to go back to tiny intentionless little limbs.

Thursday, March 3, 2011

Day 9

I'm not sure what's wrong with this picture, but I'm too lazy to correct it right now. Besides - you can see the cutest part of her anyway. It's amazing just how soft and formless newborn cheeks are. At 4 months her cheeks are bouncy and elasticy and perfect for kissing. But here they are still all soft meltiness.

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Day 8

Riley is still swimming in her 0-3 month pajamas, but I couldn't resist the chance to have matching sleepers. It confused Cam a little, because every time he saw Riley's jammies he thought they were his and then we'd have an issue of him wanting to wear them. Riley is still so jaundiced, can't you tell?

Day 7: One week

Preemie sized pants, silly newborn faces, and so much room to grown into the bouncy seat. Such a tiny little girl.
